Doom Multiplayer Setup

I already lost a count of how many times I assisted my friends to set up Zandronum so I decided to make a brief setup guide.

1. Buy Doom to have an access base game files: doom.wad and doom2.wad
   
2. Download and install Zandronum.
   
3. Open it, go to Options → Configure and complete the following steps:

Q: How do I make HUD bigger?
A: Go to HUD options and tick the stretch fullscreen hud option. If you prefer the old-style bottom bar press - key on your keyboard.

Q: How do I increase chat message text size?
A: Go to HUD options → Message Options → Text Scaling. Tick the enable text scaling option on and set the virtual width and height.

Q: How do I navigate bigger levels?
A: The automap by default is bind to Enter key. You also can go to automap options and set the overlay automap option.

Q: Why not using the Steam version?
A: Zandronum has a much wider mod support that allows to play custom mods like this one.

Q: How do I host a server with my own mods?
A: There are a couple of free Zandronum hosting solutions I recommend, Painkiller (NA) and Euroboros (EU).

Q: How to display the game on my other monitor?
A: While in game press ~ key to open the console and enter vid_listadapters command to view the list of your monitors. Then enter vid_adapter command to set your main monitor.
